Product Description
The Astroluxe is outfitted with relatively low magnification to ensure a generous field of view and wide exit pupil for easier viewing — especially when holding them by hand. The traditional Porro prism light path presents a rich depth of field, while the BAK4 glass produces a round exit pupil and virtually eliminates spherical aberration at the edges for flat views without comas or fringing. Complementing these optical features are winged eyecups that conform to the user's face, keep stray ambient peripheral light from interfering with the view and causing distractions, and increase contrast and clarity.
The chassis design has an ergonomic feel in the hand that places the grip in a natural and balanced position, with textured armoring to further improve grip security. Both optical tubes are nitrogen-filled to be waterproof and resistant to the internal fogging that can occur when moving from the inside of a warm house to the outside into cold winter or sultry humid summer nights. Weighing in at almost 4.5 pounds, holding the Astroluxe can cause some users to experience arm fatigue — especially during long observation sessions — so Nikon includes an adapter to mount them onto a wide variety of photo, video, or field tripods for hands-free use to ensure vibration-free views and easier tracking of fast-moving subjects.
